Fibromyalgia & Diabetes:Can the New Implantable Chip Save You Pain?

Coping with fibromyalgia is hard enough every day but if you have diabetes as well checking your sugar levels and dealing with generalized pain can be even more of a challenge!

So what about the new Implantable Glucose Sensors? Will they be a help or a hinder? According to news reports the company is trying to develop the proto-type for the device now; It is said that they hope to complete it within the next 6 months! They hope to have the device created within 3 years for use but just how effective do you think the device will be?

If you wish to make comments on your feelings about the device please reply. The device is suppose to be replaced every 6 months so how would you feel about going in every 6 months for a new implant?

Until next time,

Fibromyalgia & Diabetes: Fighting Muscle Spams

The terrible thought of getting muscle spasms haunts most of us with Fibromyalgia and Diabetes everyday! We dread the simple thought of cold weather, or our shoes being too small or pointy toed.

Though recently I have learned that a lack of potassium can create muscle spams! This I found only because I have learned that I am potassium deficient!

There are many symptoms of Potassium Deficiency. They can mimic signs of heart-attack. Making sure you are getting the proper amount is important to the way your body runs. It can cause pain in our already pain ridden bodies, extra pain we don’t need!

Some Symptoms Of Potassium Deficency are:

  • Irregular Heartbeat (heart Palpitations)
  • Muscle Cramps & Spasms
  • Overall muscle weakness(which on of us doesn’t have this)
  • Constipation

A lack of Potassium can cause rapid heartbeat and overall sick feeling. There are several foods to eat that can help you prevent Potassium Deficiency.

Foods Containing Potassium:

  • Tomato Juice
  • Molasses
  • Bananas
  • Apricots
  • Dates & Figs

Though as of now the US RDA does not have a recommended dose you can ask your physician for more information on this topic. Since there are several concerns about potassium deficiency it is wise to be checked periodically for your potassium levels.

I hope this helps and feel free to check in more for further information on this topic!

Until next time,

Lyrica- Friend or Foe

Recently the FDA has approved the drug Lyrica for use in treatment of Fibromyalgia. Though we have known that fibromyaliga is a true and existing condition main stream is just catching up!

Lyricahas some side effects that were basically mild-but however did have some more moderate reactions in patients in the trial a few patients did stop treatment during the trial due to side effects.

Some common ones were:

  • Dry mouth
  • sleepiness- so plan ahead!
  • dizziness
  • blurry vision

The decision to take Lyrica is total up to you and should be thoroughly discussed by your doctor. Making sure you are comfortable with the medication and listing all current medications prescription and Over the counter is wise before starting this drug or any other.
