Thousands of Americans have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in the past 5 years. Though 5-10 years ago many people thought of Fibromyalgia as a “Crazy Peoples” disease. Since than scientific evidence has proven otherwise. Due to a recent interview with Dr. Paul St. Amand of the Fibromyalgia Treatment Center and Author of “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia” I have a new view on Fibromyalgia.

Approximately 1 in 50 Americans have Fibromyalgia or will have it in their lifetime. Fibromyalgia is most commonly found in women however men have been diagnosed as well. Over the years many doctors thought of Fibromyalgia as a neurological condition. Many prescribed Anti-depressants and narcotics to calm the symptoms. This only masks the condition. Dr. St. Amand has adapted a new treatment that is showing incredible results.

It is called the Guaifensesin Protocol. This treatment was designed to treat the underlining core of the disease at the cellular level in an effort to heal the body. Dr. R. Paul St. Amand feels that the disease is causing our bodies to be ‘tired’ on a cellular level causing the other body systems to break down. The treatment is said to reverse this process. The doctor provides three possible parts to treatment. 1) Guaifensesin protocol 2) Stopping the use of salicylates in our food, hair & body products, dental products, etc…3) low carbohydrates diet for those suffering Hypoglycemia.

Currently Dr. R. Paul St. Amand’s Fibromyalgia Treatment Center has donated $300,000 dollars to the the research project “The City of Hope” project in Duarte California. You can read more on the progress of the project by going to www.fibromyalgiatreatment.com/board

Further into the interview:

Dr. R. Paul St. Amand expressed his opinions on the book “What Your Doctor Might Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia”

Question: What inspired you to write the book “What Your Doctor Might Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia?”

Dr. Amand Answered: He was approached by an editor and was asked to write the book. With the help of his assistant [ Claudia Marek] he was able to complete the book.

The book was revised 1 ½ years ago.

Question: Are you thinking of writing more books on Fibromyalgia?

Dr. Amand Answered: “No-Not really I think we have added all we needed to in the last edition of “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia’. Except the current research and we probably wouldn’t have enough information to make another book.”

Question: What is the Most Severe case of Fibromyalgia you have ever treated?

Dr. Amand Answered: “A girl come into my office at 17years of age she was having epileptic seizures -going on almost all day, she was losing weight, we couldn’t do anything to treat her than so she went to neurologist and got on some anti-convulsion pills-to calm her down, then we were able to treat her. Now she is doing well, going to school and exercising.”

When Dr. Amand was asked about his reaction to the new FDA Approved drugs Lyrica and Cymbalta his response was:

“Pretty Bad- they can make you more tired and are pain suppressants. Some side effects are compulsive gambling, Erotica, lowering libido, and they block inhibitions. A patient was on the medication and slashed his arm 5 times than sat and watched TV. When his wife got home she asked him why he did it and he responded- ‘I just wondered what it would feel like’”

When asked what advice he had for patients suffering from Fibromyalgia he responded:

“ Do as much reading as you can”
